Fleetwood Town’s Former Players Association met up once again at the Club’s training complex, Poolfoot Farm, on Thursday morning and caught up for the first time in four weeks.

Those in attendance on Thursday morning paid tribute to the oldest known former player Dave Cookson, who sadly passed away at the age of 91.

Dave played for our club in the early 1950s and was well-known in local sporting circles, excelling in both football and cricket for many years. He was also a hugely popular and regular attendee of our Former Players Association monthly meetings and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

There was a huge number of the Former Players who attended his funeral at St. Chads' Church in Poulton-le-Fylde, giving him the perfect send-off.

Back to the meeting at Poolfoot Farm, Stuart Murdoch gave a short speech, handing out apologises to those who couldn't make the event, whilst also informing the group who had a birthday upcoming in the month of April.

One that stood out was Frank Bowker - who will turn 81 on Monday 15 April. Many happy returns to Frank and those celebrating their birthday's this month.

Former Player, Terry Uttley gave a heartfelt talk to the. group, talking about his life, the highs and lows as well as looking back at the good times on the Fylde Coast. This brought the group closer, acknowledging to take opportunities and make those memories.

With the talks out the way, it was time for the usual tea and coffee break before Quizmaster Kevin Byrne got hold of the microphone to conduct this month's quiz. With some speaking out of line, Byrne wasn't afraid - once again - to deduct points from those shouting out.

This followed by the inaugural FPA Darts Championship, and with darts-fever on a high, and with Luke Littler performing the way he has, members thought they still had a chance to feature at the Professional Darts Corporation. This was all arranged by Steve Beech, with Norman Moran claiming the title on the day.

Thanks to all the members who turned up for the monthly meeting this time out, we look forward to welcoming you back on Thursday 2 May 2024 for a 10am kick-off with more fun and games to take place!
