Fleetwood Town’s Under-18’s secured all three points at Poolfoot Farm on Tuesday afternoon as they beat Peterborough United 1-0 in the Professional Development League.

In what was a tight game on the Fylde Coast, it was a second half goal from midfielder Rylee Wilkinsons that meant the three points were staying local in the league clash against the travelling Posh.

Fleetwood had a decent start to the game creating a few chances, but it was Peterbourough that would go on to have a great chance to grab an early goal as Posh defender Toynton headed the ball over the goal.

Another Posh chance would follow shortly as as Trialist C curled his shot just wide of the post, leaving keeper Ollie Bellizia scrambling across his goal line.

As the first half continued, The Cods grew into the game as both Crispin McLean and Liam Roberts linked up to create a number of really good chances. One of those chances came after 26 minutes where McLean played a through ball out wide to Roberts, who squared the ball across goal, but no Fleetwood player could get on the end of it.

The best chance of the first half came after a clever free-kick by McLean, who played Roberts into space at the edge of the box. The tricky winger sliced through the ball and guided it towards the far post, but it didn't dip in time, as it hit off of the underside of the crossbar and bounced back out into the Posh penalty area.

The Young Cods rounded off the first half with another glorious chance. Harvey Fletcher played the ball out wide for McLean to run onto, whose shot caught Posh's keeper off-guard, and sailed over him onto the crossbar and into the path of Hermann Daha - who couldn't convert the ball into the back of the net.

Town would assert control over the game, pushing for the opener, and with more chances for McLean, he saw a shot go over the bar after a cutback from Daha. Town were creating opportunities to score but just couldn't convert.

The deadlock was broken in the 78th minute as a pass out by Posh keeper West fell to the feet of Rylee Wilkinson, who was able to get round a defender, before firing his shot into the back of an exposed Posh goal, giving The Cods a one goal lead.

The visitors had a few late chances to grab an equaliser. Their winger whipped the ball into a congested Fleetwood  box, however Bellizia was there to claim the ball and settle things down with minutes left.

It was a great win for our Young Cods, and now Mark Yeates and his team will be looking to take the positives to the game against Sheffield United on Saturday.
