Fleetwood Town picked up all three points on the penultimate game of the season against Leyton Orient.

It was the hosts who started best in the match in E10. Leyton Orient enjoyed a spell of possession in the opening five minutes with Shaq Forde having a golden opportunity to open the scoring, but a miss hit saved the Cods from trailing very early on.

Leyton Orient had another chance to take the lead, this time through defender Tom James. Shaq Forde won a free kick on the edge of the box and The O’s number 2 hit a fierce effort towards goal, but Jay Lynch tipped the ball over his bar to keep the score level.

More chances came for Orient has Ethan Galbraith struck a well-hit shot just wide. Moments later, Zech Obiero turns his man inside out three times and puts a wicked delivery into the area, but Jay Lynch denied Dan Agyei at close range.

Town’s best chance of the half came from the skipper. Brendan Wiredu ran the length of the field and buried down on goal before being dispossessed just before he got his shot off.

It was goalless at the break with both teams coming out for the second half.

Carl Johnston almost put the Cods ahead within the first 10 minutes of the second half. Shaun Rooney whipped in a fine cross and CJ was there to meet it with his head but Sol Brynn made a vital save.

It was Town again who nearly took the lead through Ryan Broom but his volley was again saved by The O’s goalkeeper.

Both teams had chances to take the lead, but it was Xavier Simons who broke the deadlock in the third minute of extra time.

Shaun Rooney pumped the ball into the box, Tommy Lonergan passed the ball the ball to the Hull City loanee and he slotted the ball perfectly into the bottom round corner.

The full-time whistle was blown moments later and unfortunately the win wasn’t enough to secure our League One status next season.
