WIGAN ATHLETIC

The Tics make the short journey down the M6 with a spring in their step since beating promotion-hopefuls Bolton Wanderers 1-0 last time out at home thanks to a Stephen Humphrys goal, Shaun Maloney’s men will be using that confidence as fuel to do a double over the Cods this campaign.

Despite setbacks faced this season with off the pitch issues and an eight point deduction, Wigan have steered themselves up the table into a respectable 13th place with ambitions once things settle down, to build on the foundations Maloney has built.

With Wigan successful in their last two against Town, Maloney will be looking to smell blood on the fact that Fleetwood haven’t won a match in five attempts [three draws two losses].

The side from the DW boast an impressive record against Town with the sides having met a total of 13 times in all competitions, Wigan have won eight [62%], there’s been three draws [23%] and Town have only won 2 of those meetings [15%].

THOSE WHO HAVE PLAYED FOR BOTH

There’s been a few players who have found themselves in the home dressing room at Highbury Stadium and the DW Stadium.

Craig Morgan

A player that made a straight swap between the two, Morgan joined the Cods from Wigan in 2018 after making 56 appearances for the Tics, Morgan would go onto make 23 appearances for Town and sometimes wore the captains’ armband as a tough-tackling, leader of a centre-half - Morgan retired after his stint at Highbury but with his head held high with his career including 23 senior caps for Wales.

Joe Garner

Garner, who is still applying his trade in the National League with Oldham Athletic since his recent move from Carlisle United in the window just gone, has had a career full of spectacular moments where the striker has a CV including stints in Scotland, Greece and from the highest point north in England to as southern as Watford - a player who’s efforts have been appreciated all over.

Stephen Crainey

Starting his career at Celtic to then play over 300 appearances in the football league and premier league combined, Crainey is a figure fondly remembered for his time at Fleetwood, contributing to youth teams and the ex-Scottish-international found himself in the dug-out for Town on a temporary basis, assisting the club to safety in the 2021/22 season - Crainey is now at Saturday’s opponents as a youth team coach.

WHAT THE GAFFER HAD TO SAY IN HIS PREVIEW

Despite some excellent moments in the last two outings, including some last moment heroics from Jayden Stockley to salvage a draw, Charlie Adam believes the squad have had a good learning week to ensure maximum efforts for maximum points this weekend.
