STEVENAGE NEWS

Stevenage currently sit 6th in Sky Bet League One in their first season back. With 60 points on the board after 35 games played, they will be looking to cement a play-off place with a handful of teams also looking for that one place.

With Steve Evans at the helm, he has overseen 19 wins this campaign, with two wins from their last three matches. The first came on Saturday 24 February when they beat Wycome on home soil with a 1-0 victory thanks to Carl Piergianni's 23rd minute goal.

In their next fixture, Jordan Roberts goal ten minutes before the interval was enough to guide Stevenage to three points against Cambridge United. It was stalemate in their latest clash with Lincoln City, with it playing out as a goalless draw in Stevenage.

Jamie Reid is the player for Town fans to watch out on Saturday. He has 21 goals to his name in all competition this season, but hasn't scored any in his last four fixtures. He bagged in the 2-2 draw away at Port Vale, and has scored a brace on three occassions this year.

Match Reports

Report: Town earn a good point after Stevenage draw

9 March 2024

Fleetwood Town earned a good point on the road on Saturday afternoon as they played out a goalless draw with high-flying Stevenage at the Lamex Stadium.

The game certainly wasn’t a spectacle for supporters on the day as most of the play was in the centre of the park. Both sides did create some good chances during the clash but it was a good day for both goalkeepers.

It was a testing start to the game for the Cods, but they handled the pressure well as chances were limited in the opening period. The best chance early on fell to Carl Piergianni whose header from a corner was blocked by Harrison Holgate.

More defending was on the cards from this point on for Fleetwood, with Piergianni being a problem from set-pieces. He managed to work another effort for himself, this time from a Harvey White free-kick, but his header went wide of the mark.

After Jordan Roberts unleashed a strike which needed to be blocked, Town were forced into an early change as Eli Campbell was on the receiving end of Louis Thompson’s elbow in the middle of the park – he was replaced by Shaun Rooney.

Fleetwood’s first chance of the game came just after the break – following efforts from Jamie Reid and Luther James-Wildin – when Bosun Lawal spotted a chance from a tight angle and forced a decent diving save from Taye Ashby-Hammond.

Unfortunately, more misfortune followed for Town as just after the hour mark, Holgate dove into a challenge late just inside the Fleetwood half and was shown a second yellow, with the defender picking up the first ahead of the break.

The hosts thought they had found a breakthrough with 10 minutes to go, after pressuring the 10 men of Fleetwood for some time as substitute Nesta Guinness-Walker played a low cross to Reid, who passed it home but was in an offside position.

Boro XI: Ashby-Hammond (GK), James-Wildin, Butler, Piergianni (C), Roberts, VanCooten, Burns (Freeman 46’), White (Guinness-Walker 46’), Reid, Thompson, Hemmings (List 64’).

Unused subs: MacGillivray (GK), Sweeney, MacDonald, Oliver.

Town XI: Lynch (GK), Johnston, Wiredu (C), Lawal, Campbell (Rooney 31’), Kilkenny, Stockley, Mayor, Holgate, Graydon (Broom 64’), Patterson (Omochere 64’).

Unused subs: McMullan (GK), Boyes, Samuels, Lonergan.

Attendance: 3,911 (110 away)
