Fleetwood Town’s Under-17s earned their spot in the final of the Professional Development League Cup after beating Crewe Alexandra 2-0 on Wednesday.

In a game that meant the world to our young Cods, they showed that they could withstand the pressure of the knockout tournament as a second-half brace from David Animasaun – who has stepped up to the Under-18s multiple times this season – was enough to earn the win at Crewe’s academy site.

Captain on the day, Ollie Bellizia, kept things tight at the back as the side managed to keep a clean sheet in the away clash, so it was a good day for everyone on Nathan Pond’s side, apart from Under-15 Reece Wilkes who had to drop out of the line-up before the game due to an illness.

This result follows their 2-1 win over Colchester United in the Quarter Finals where Under-16 Jensen Stansfield and Wilkes both found the net at Poolfoot Farm in the clash – our young Cods will now face Watford in the final after they beat Burnley in the other Semi-Final earlier this week.

Town XI: Bellizia (GK) (C), Ruocco, Elmore, Smith, Slater, Eccles, Cirino, Jack Doherty, Animasaun, Wilkinson, Roberts.
