Goal scorer Phoenix Patterson spoke to the media straight after Fleetwood Town’s convincing 3-0 home win over Exeter City on Saturday afternoon.
Patterson, who scored the third goal of the afternoon, rounded out the brilliant performance at Highbury after sneaking his free-kick into the near post, after assisting Brendan Wiredu for Town’s second a few minutes earlier.
Here’s what Phoenix had to say after his Man of the Match performance:
On earning all three points…
“I’m buzzing to get the win and to score a goal; getting the win to try and push further us up the table has always been our goal and we just focus on each game. Going into this one, we were confident, especially on the back of an unbeaten run.
“To get the ball rolling early and score early was good, we just kept that going through the first half and saw it out in the second half - we’re all happy. To beat Exeter today 3-0 at home in front of our fans, it was a good day.”
On his goal and assist this afternoon...
“I just saw the keeper was a bit too far over, so I thought let me just try and whip it near post and I’m happy it's gone in.
“With the size of the squad and the runs that they make, I just have to put it in an area and more often than not the boys are going to get on the end of it and like today we scored from it.
“I’m just happy I can come in and help the team. I know what I can do and what I can bring to the team, so I’m happy I can show the fans, the staff, and the players around me. Hopefully, I can keep doing that in the games to come.”
On the high spirits in the dressing room…
“The mood in the changing room is good, we’re all pulling in the same direction. The goal for everyone in the changing room is to get as far up the table as we can. We are all confident as a group at the moment.
“Hopefully we can keep this run going and keep climbing the table. It’s really important for us as a team that we try and keep clean sheets, because if you keep a clean sheet then you can’t lose.
“We were concentrating on the first bit of the second half to make sure that we were compact and in good shape so that we didn’t concede early. To see out the game in the second half was good.”
