Fleetwood Town will commemorate Remembrance Day at this Saturday’s home fixture against Exeter City.

The Grecians make one of the longest journeys in the division when they come to Highbury Stadium on Saturday where they travel up North in disappointing form with only one win in their last ten matches – City will intend to travel in a hope they can turn their fortunes around against the Cods who are in opposite form with only two losses in the last ten – City sit four places higher then Town in the table where results will be needed to be turned around to steer clear of the drop zone.
The Devon side are relatively new to Sky Bet League One following their promotion from Sky Bet League Two in 2022/23, but their return is welcome for fans and everyone associated with the club alike as the last time they were a division three side was the 2011/12 season - just over a decade later they’re back and looking to establish themselves again - especially after last year’s valiant effort of a respectable 14th place finish at the first time of asking.
Despite the poor results, manager Gary Caldwell has provided Exeter with an identity on the pitch since he took the reigns on 24 October 2022 as the Grecians this season are averaging 56.1% possession per game, the fourth highest behind Portsmouth, Bolton and Peterborough, all sides who sit in the Play-Off places; unfortunately not all stats are kind reading for Caldwell as they sit third in the big chances missed table which shows they’re not as clinical as they would hope with only 12 goals scored this season, the joint third lowest in the league so far.
WHAT LEE JOHNSON HAD TO SAY PRE-MATCH
The Gaffer spoke to the local media on Thursday afternoon ahead of the Exeter City game, and here's what he had to say after five games unbeaten:
“I think the win on Tuesday has been good for the group. We’ve had some really good successes in recent weeks, we are now five games unbeaten but I wish we’d have taken more points from the set of matches, but all of this sets things up nicely for Saturday.
"We are going into this match wanting to get the three points and really cement what has been a fantastic week for the club. It’s a bit of a six-pointer on Saturday, isn’t it? I must say I’ve never quite understood that saying but now I do, and we want to draw in as many teams as possible who are above us.
"I always talk about the process, but you do naturally look at the league table if you lose or draw, and if you win you see if you’ve got out of the relegation zone, but the lads now have the play in the moment, and that will be the key.
“If we give everything and if we perform on the day as we have done in recent matches, we will have a very good chance of winning this game and that’s the message. It will keep us looking forward if we win on Saturday, and we are scoring more goals as a squad and I think we look more fluid in possession, but we need to cope with opposition moments better.”

THOSE WHO HAVE PLAYED FOR BOTH
Admiral Muskwe: Current Grecian Muskwe is a loanee on the southwest coast, a geographical contrast to his time on the northwest coast with Fleetwood between August 2022 and January 2023 – this season at St James’ Park the striker is a little closer to home as the Luton striker is still trying to apply his trade in the lower leagues with a dream of touching Rob Edwards’ current Premier League set up in Luton; Muskwe is yet to find the back of the net this season.
Sam Stubbs: Maybe a defender fans won’t have the clearest of memories about as Stubbs represented the Cod Army in the COVID years without fans in attendance or limited attendees and also with only nine games played, Stubbs however was a presence in the backline for Town standing at 6 foot 2 and even getting a headed goal for his duties, injuries hindered Stubbs’ chances in FY7 and a move directly to Exeter followed but Stubbs now has found form for Sky Bet League Two side Bradford City.
Jayden Stockley: Town’s number nine is a liked-character in this current Town side, known for his strength, hold-up play and a fond eye for goal where Stockley was also appreciated by Exeter fans as over two spells between January 2016 and June 2016 and then August 2017 to January 2019 and 98 appearances Stockley scored 51 goals, an impressive record at any level. The 30-year-old has scored goals everywhere he’s been from as high up North in Aberdeen and to as low South as Torquay.
