Thomas set for a special mascot experience thanks to Fleetwood Beach Wheelchairs

We’ll have a very special guest leading the teams out before Saturday’s Sky Bet League One game against Accrington Stanley, as we welcome Fleetwood Beach Wheelchairs to Highbury Stadium.

Ten-year-old Thomas Hudson will carry the match ball onto the pitch using a state-of-the-art beach wheelchair paid for by the general Fleetwood public.

The Pear Tree School student is a regular user of the charity’s truly accessible beach for wheelchairs, part of a scheme launched on the Fylde Coast in 2018.

Fleetwood Beach Wheelchair trustee, Karen Murdoch, said: “Very few places in the UK can claim to have truly accessible beaches for wheelchair users.

"Thanks to the incredible generosity of the public we are able to say Fleetwood is somewhere which welcomes and supports everyone to enjoy our fabulous coastline.

"We are delighted to be able to bring our chair to Highbury Stadium this weekend and allow Thomas to lead the teams out in one of our special chairs.”

The charity will be in Jim’s Bar pre-match holding a collection, with all donations welcome. For more information, visit: https://www.fleetwoodbeachwheelchairs.co.uk
