Head Coach Simon Grayson spoke to the press after Saturday afternoon’s 1-1 stalemate with MK Dons.

Ged Garner opened the scoring in the second half after cutting inside from the right-hand side and picking out the top corner. However, with eight minutes to go, the visitors equalized when substitute Charlie Brown pounced on a loose ball in the box.

Here’s what he had to say:

On the game…

“I’m disappointed and frustrated as I thought we certainly deserved to win the game. I thought the attitude was really good. The way we applied ourselves was really good and we played against a very possession-based team.

“You know that they’re going to play out from the back so you know that you’ve got to keep your shape and be disciplined, and we knew we could pinch things in the right areas and hit them on the break when space opens up.

“I can’t remember them really having a shot on target, we hit the bar, had some good opportunities in the first half. In the second half, we kept the same shape and Ged got a fantastic goal and we had opportunities to go and get that second goal while it’s still only 1-0. Overall, I’m pleased with how players applied themselves, how they applied themselves to the shape and their attitude as well.”

On the squad’s application…

“They are good players with good attitudes, Harrison Biggins has had to wait for his opportunity, and he’s done really well in there and Sam Finley has taken his opportunity, all the midfield three today have a really good attitude.

“All my players are ready when they come into the first team, they all keep a good shape which is always good, we get in the right area and it’s disappointing when we didn’t win the game when we should have done.

“Ged has done well. We took him out of the team after he’d been in for quite a while to give him a rest. McKay ended up playing in that 10 roles and doing quite well but we just felt today was a good opportunity for him. His link-up play was good, his work rate was good and his finish was excellent.”
