Defender Max Clark spoke to the press after Fleetwood Town’s 2-1 loss against Stoke City in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday Night at the bet365 Stadium.
Clark – who was part of the Fleetwood defensive line who limited the Championship side to few chances during the game – was on both attacking and defensive duties during the tie, which Town were on the opposite end of, meaning the side would exit the cup.
Here’s what Max had to say after the game:
On the game…
“I thought we came here and gave it a good go. We were always determined, and I thought in the first half we could’ve taken some more chances, but we played the ball around well and I’m just gutted now.
“In the first half I thought we did well and had some good phases of play. They’ve got quality players who are in the Championship, and I think we held our own. It was nice to be out there competing against lads who have played in the Premier League.
“It was a massive blow (to concede) just on the stroke of half time and we went in, and we were all gutted to concede. It’s difficult to take regardless of who you’re playing but we couldn’t dwell on it too much and we had another 45 minutes to play.”
On the team morale…
“I’m absolutely loving it (at the club). The lads made settle in really quickly and the staff. We’re together as a group and it’ll go to show how solid we are together. We’ll all work as hard as we can for each other.
“I feel like we’ve got a good group of lads that can do something good this season and I’m happy to be part of it here at Fleetwood Town and I’m having a good time here so far and I’m looking forward to the season.
“I think there is plenty of competition for places. There were six changes tonight, all solid in quality and all played well. They just fit in there straight away. There’s a lot of competition now and we’re all excited to compete against each other but also go in the right direction together.”
