Forward Ched Evans spoke to the press after scoring twice in a 3-2 loss to Charlton Athletic at the Valley on Tuesday evening.
Evans – who has now scored four goals in the last four games – managed to bag a brace at The Valley with two quickfire goals assisted by Paul Coutts and Barrie McKay respectively.
Here’s what he had to say:
On the game…
“It’s disappointing getting ourselves back into the game down here, scoring two goals, I think overall we were the better team. We conceded three average goals, obviously the penalty. It’s just disappointing all-round really, not to come away with any points.
“I think it was out of character for us, usually we’re quite dominant on set plays but they’re a big side and they worked it well. The second goal was obviously a follow-up and the third goal was a penalty which for us it could’ve been snubbed out further up the pitch but overall disappointed we didn’t come out with any points.”
On the recent run of form…
“We got straight back into it and obviously 2-0 down here, knowing that they’ve not conceded in about nine and a half hours. The first one was a great ball by Paul Coutts to slip me in, the second was another great ball by Baz (Barrie) McKay, instinctive finishes but like I said, disappointed we’ve not come away with any points really.
“We’re taking confidence from our last three results. We’ve had three wins and then coming here to a team that has conceded a goal and scoring two and I think probably having the better chances, we can take credit for that and take satisfaction in that we can come to places like this and score goals. It’s just a case of shutting up shop and not conceding.
“Fleetwood as a whole are underdogs but I think people are actually sitting up and seeing the strength of our squad now and like you say coming to a place like this and the result last week I think we’re real contenders for being up there at the end of the season.”
