Fleetwood Town defender Harry Souttar spoke to the press on Thursday morning ahead of Saturday's Sky Bet League One match against Walsall.

The defender – who is on loan from Championship side Stoke City – has been ever-present in Joey Barton’s side and has kept three clean sheets in five matches since his arrival in January.

Here are the best quotes from Souttar’s pre-Walsall press conference.

On the match against Walsall this Saturday…

“We have to go there and get the win, just like every game we play. In this division, anybody can be anyone and as a group of players, we all go into matches thinking we can pick up the three points.

“We will start off with that in training today and it’s brilliant to be here with a team that has hopes of reaching the play-offs. When I went on loan to Ross County last season, we were bottom and fighting relegation, it wasn’t nice but to be here where everything is positive and driving towards the same goal, it is a good feeling to have.

“We know we can beat anybody and even when you look at the Luton game, the two goals they are avoidable, but like I said, we believe we can go out and pick up three points wherever we go in the league.”

On how he feels he has performed since joining the club…

“I have been pleased with my performances since I arrived. I don’t know what it was going to be like when I walked in as it is my first taste of proper football in England.

“It is going well, but I think over the weekend against Gillingham we should have got a better result but with three wins out of the first five games, it has started reasonably well for me at Fleetwood Town.

“I have learned a lot since being here whether it was on or off the pitch. One has been defending and team shape and that grows with you the more matches you play week in week out.

“Every game matters and there are three points at stake and that’s another learning curb for me. But that is why I am here.”

On the Player of the Month nomination...

“It was a surprise, but I found out about the nomination yesterday [Wednesday] morning when it got announced. It is obviously good for me personally, but I don’t think it should just be me, it should be the back four and Alex Cairns – who have all been brilliant with me.

“We’ve set up a real unit at the back, and it shouldn’t just go to one man, it should be all four of us at the back, and the goalkeeper.”
