Coutts: "It was a good workout against a very good side"

Midfielder Paul Coutts spoke after Fleetwood Town’s pre-season friendly on Tuesday night, and was happy with how the team performed.

Town started well, creating multiple chances in the first half taking advantage of the home setting, whilst the Clarets took time to grow into the game. Town showed some great silky, one-touch football during periods tonight but went into the break 1-0 down after a goal from Ali Kioki just before half time.

In the second half, the visitors managed to double their lead after substitute Chris Wood met a low cross into the box and was able to hit home. A good test for Fleetwood, who were unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.

Here are some of Coutts' best quotes…

Coutts on the game…

“It was a good workout against a very good side. I thought we did well throughout and created some good chances. It’s disappointing to lose any game, but I thought we gave a good account of ourselves and got the minutes under our belt.

“I thought we played well enough to take something there, I know the result doesn’t really matter but you like to win games. I think we created enough chances to win the game tonight, so a little bit disappointed tonight but it’s all about working towards the first game of the season, fitness and everything – sharpening up our skills.

“We will recover tonight and tomorrow, train again hard on Thursday and be ready to go on Friday. It will be another tough test but a game you look forward to.”

On the new faces in the squad…

“It’s been good, obviously we have all sort of integrated well. I found it quite easy to settle, it’s been a great group of lads to come into. I think you can see by the way we played tonight, obviously, we’re not quite there yet with the final product, but  we are getting there.”

On approaching the start of the league campaign…

“We’ve worked on it all pre-season really, trying to play out from the back and then get something at the end of it, some final product. It’s coming, obviously we should have scored a couple tonight, but we are not quite there yet, but hopefully, it’s all gearing up to the first game of the season.

“I think it will be a tough game, Peterborough are quite well fancied to do something this season, and something decent, so it will be a good test for us to see where we are at and hopefully go there and get three points and put out a bit of a statement to the league.”
