Conor McAleny has shared his delighted after opening day brace helped Fleetwood Town to a 2-0 win over Rotherham United.

A goal in each half for the former-Everton man ensured Uwe Rosler’s side began the 2017/18 season with three points.

“I’m really happy with how it has gone today, and I’m really pleased to get off to a good start, not just for me but for the team,” said the 24-year-old.

“The three points are exactly what we wanted on the opening day of the season, so we’re delighted.

“I’ll take the goals – of course I will! But as a group we are delighted to get off to a good start.”

With McAleny and three other new signings – Lewie Coyle, Kyle Dempsey and Jordy Hiwula all making their debut – Town’s number ten is certain the best place for him is Highbury.

“I’ve played a few games now and I know it’s the best place for me. I’m just looking forward to the season,” added McAleny.

“We worked a lot on our passing and moving over the past six weeks I’ve been here and a lot of that was on show today. Everything we’d practiced has worked and I’m very happy with that.

“I’m settling in really well and I’ve got Bobby Grant bedding me in. He’s a Scouser so we get on well!"
