Two teams from the Fleetwood Town's Wrens Ladies setup were in action on Sunday afternoon, and below we have two match reports meaning you can see how they got on in their respective matches.

Two of the Wrens Ladies teams were in action on Sunday 21 January, with the First Team's derby match against Blackpool Ladies postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Below we have two reports from the two cup matches that took place:

RESERVE TEAM

The Reserves were on the road on Sunday afternoon, and they faced up against FC St Helens in the Lancashire Cup.

The Wrens started off the stronger of the two sides, going on the front foot and asserting dominance from the word go and with many great phases of play down either flank, the Ladies created numerous chances throughout the first half but were unlucky not to take a healthy lead.

The deadlock was finally broken after Ruby Farrell was taken down just outside the box, and it was up to Emily McCarthy to brilliantly execute her brilliant free-kick which found the back of the net and gave Fleetwood a deserved lead.

As the first half ended, Fleetwood kept the lead knowing all was to play for in the second half. The hosts started to compete better after the restart, and after a lapse of concentration from Fleetwood, it allowed FC St Helens to get one back, making it all things level with Town looking to get back ahead in the clash.

A second mistake from Fleetwood allowed the hosts to find the back of the net for the second time, and this gave them the lead for the first time in the game, but Fleetwood reacted extremely well and with a super strike from Tasha Stenton, her strike smashed the back of the net to put things level again.

The great aggressive play continued from the red and whites as they searched for the winner, but as the game rolled into the final minutes, it was the hosts who managed to find the winner - a costly mistake from Fleetwood saw them exit the Lancashire Cup.

The Player of the Match was Lauren Hardman for her hard work, continued threat going forward, and all-round play from start to finish.

DEVELOPMENT SQUAD

The Development Squad also hit the road on Sunday in the Quarter Finals of the Lancashire Cup, having been drawn to take on Haslingden Ladies - who currently sit two divisions higher, so it was always going to be tough for the Ladies, but they went out to compete.

It was a good start to the game for the Wrens who attempted to assert dominance. The Ladies worked hard to do the right things, creating a number of chances early on but it was a mistake from the Wrens that Haslingden capitalised on, and it's fair to say they were clinical in the final third when chances fell their way.

Despite the result, there were lots of positives to take and it's important we praise the Girls for battling against their opponents. A shout out to Player of the Match, Phoebe Hutchinson - who worked hard throughout, keeping her head up and being positive in the game.
