Fleetwood Town can confirm young forward Will Russ has joined Southport permanent deal following the club recalling him from his loan spell at Hyde United.

The 21-year-old netted two times in eight appearances during his spell at the Northern Premier League Premier Division side, with those two goals coming against Radcliffe and Lancaster City respectively.

Russ has since been recalled from the Tigers, where he has spent the last three months, and will now head to Southport in the National League North on a permanent basis.

Hyde wasn't the only loan experience the young player has also spent time at FC United of Manchester, South Sheilds, and Marine respectively - netting 10 goals over the last two seasons throughout non-league.

Jack Higgins, Academy Manager, said on the move: "Although we are sad to see Will go, we all recognise this is a fantastic opportunity for him to go and start his senior football career at a really good non-league club.

"Furthermore, we as an Academy must see this as another form of success. Despite never appearing for our first team here, we know Will is grateful to the club for the education and support he has received from us here and leaves us as a better player than when he arrived from Leicester City.

"We’ve spent the past 18 months working with him, and the loan clubs he’s played for, to help develop him into a big target man, a real number nine, and we are confident he will go on have a good career in the game."

Everyone at the club would like to thank Will for his efforts whilst at the club and wish him all the best for the future.
