Fleetwood Town’s Development Squad were back in action for the first time this year on Tuesday afternoon as they lost out to Barnsley at the Club’s training complex.
The game had a frantic start as there were three goals in the opening 20 minutes, one for Fleetwood and two for Barnsley, with Maleace Asamoah netting for the hosts on the afternoon as he rose highest to head home a corner just after the quarter-hour mark.
Barnsley’s goals, on the other hand, both came from the penalty spot and were scored by young forward Fabio Jalo, and they weren’t stopping there as Aaron Akinson made it three for The Tykes not long after as he fired a powerful shot into the bottom corner of Stephen McMullan’s net.
Unfortunately, Barnsley then added another goal to their tally five minutes after the break, which confirmed Jalo’s hat-trick for the afternoon, and this spurred on some changes as Harry Wilson, Pharrell Brown, and Sam Fishburn were all introduced midway through the second half.
These substitutes affected the game for the better as Town’s goalscorer, Asamoah, almost secured his brace in the 67th minute, but his shot went the wrong side of the post before Tom Hoyle raised the tensions a little bit by netting a header with just under 10 minutes to go.
This would be the end of the action though and, even though the Cods powered through to the end of the fixture, it was defeat on the day meaning all focus will now be on their next fixture, which will take place on Tuesday 22 January against Coventry City.
