New signing Ronan Coughlan sat down with the media at the Club and told all about his ties with Waterford, familiar faces in Fleetwood, and the move as a whole.

The Limerick-born forward, who broke multiple records last year, becomes Charlie Adam’s first signing of the year, having scored 37 goals in all competitions for our sister-club, Waterford FC over in Ireland last campaign.

Here’s what Ronan had to say in his first interview:

On making the move over to Fleetwood…

“I’m delighted to be here, it took a while to get over the line, but it’s finally happened so I can’t wait to get going. I’ve always wanted to test myself, like any player and, for me, it’s always to push on and play at the highest level I can.

“You couldn’t write a better ending to my time over at Waterford, could you? When I went there, all I wanted to do was get the club promoted and to finally do that and even get the goal in the final that sent them up was the cherry on top for me.

“All of the lads have helped me settle in; when I first found out they were interested, I spoke to Barry [Baggley] about the club and he always had good things to say and that was important for me and the other I knew from Waterford all said the same things.”

On his goalscoring form last season and coming to Fleetwood…

“Playing here at Fleetwood in League One will be a big step up for me, I just can’t wait to start playing now - 2023 was a great year for me; I gained promotion with Waterford and scored a good few goals so sets me up for this year.

“When you score goals at any level, there is going to be interest, but Fleetwood is a team that has always shown an interest and they already know so much about me, with their links to Waterford over in Ireland.

“I know quite a few faces already in that dressing room having been at Waterford, Junior [Quitirna], Phoenix [Patterson], and even Promise [Omochere], Barry Baggley who is back here at the moment, and David Harrington – a lot of faces from the League of Ireland.”
