Winger Phoenix Patterson and goalkeeper Stephen McMullan went out into the community on Thursday afternoon as they helped the Trust during one of their Headstart Campaign sessions at Charles Saer Primary School.

Accompanied by the Trust’s Mental Health Transformation Officer Rachel Walker, the players made their way to the school in Fleetwood and answered questions on how they’ve worked through tough periods in their lives and their careers.

Patterson talked about his time at Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and how he dealt with leaving the club a few years back, with McMullan sharing his stories about various injuries he’s had so far and what he’s done to get back playing as soon as possible.

After this, both the players sat down at the front of the class and signed autographs on sheets of paper, bags, clothes, and even the forehead of one of the kids! Then, everyone gathered outside the class in the cold to take a group picture with smiles galore from front to back.

This is one of many visits tied into the Community Trust’s Headstart Campaign, with players heading out to see Year 6 classes across the Fylde Coast from now until March, where they will share their stories which show resilience and the challenges they’ve overcome in their careers.

It was great to see Phoenix and Stephen back out in the local community!
