Defender Harry Boyes sat down with the local media for the first time since joining on loan earlier in the month and previewed Fleetwood Town’s clash against his former side Wycombe Wanderers.

Boyes, who arrived on the Fylde Coast from Premier League side Sheffield United a couple of weeks ago, spent the first half of this season on a separate loan deal with the Chairboys and he has said that he’s going to enjoy going back and playing against players and staff who he’s familiar with.

Here’s what Harry said in his pre-match interview:

On his first few weeks at Fleetwood…

“It’s been easy to settle in here as I managed to get a place straight away, I like the gaffer, and the lads have been class with me, so everything has been good since I’ve joined. In both games I’ve played, the style of play has suited me, and I feel like I’ve got the freedom to move forward, which is what I want to do.

“It’s a compliment from the gaffer about my left foot as his one is special; he’s put faith in me, and I just need to repay him now. I’ve played quite a few games now in this league, I’m only 22 but I’ve played quite a few games, so I feel like I know the level quite well.

“Anyone can beat anyone on their day, it’s such a competitive league; When we played Portsmouth on Saturday, there wasn’t much in the game so going from top to bottom, it’s only slim margins. Although the results haven’t gone our way, I’ve enjoyed it here so far – we just need to get that first win because, once we do, I’m confident we’ll turn it around.”

On knowing this weekend’s opposition…

“It’s going to be weird because three weeks to a month ago, I was playing for them, but I’m looking forward to it. I’m still close with quite a few players there with the move only just happening this month so I still know them quite well, it’ll be odd to be on the other side of the pitch to them this time around, but it’ll be something I’ll enjoy.

“I’ll speak to them before the game but, as soon as that whistle goes, it doesn’t matter who you’re playing against as you are there to do a job so if I end up going into a 50/50 tackle, I won’t be pulling out of it more than I would against someone I didn’t know. If you’ve got one over your mates, you laugh about it, don’t you?

“You don’t want to be on the receiving end of it, so I’ll be happy if we go there now and get the win! The gaffer has asked me a few questions this week because I’ve played with them, so I think I’ve been able to help a few players get to know who they are coming up against in terms of positives and negatives from their style of play.”
