Head coach Charlie Adam spoke to the media after his side picked up a valuable point on the road against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

In what was a game of two halves, goals from Promise Omochere and Jayden Stockley earned Town their first point of the year as they battled throughout the testing clash against the Chairboys at Adams Park.

Here’s what Charlie had to say in his interview:

On the key moments in the game…

“We’re a bit frustrated with the result there as the sending-off changes the game; that first-half performance was the best I’ve seen from this Fleetwood team this season – they stuck to the game plan we gave them, and we deserved the two-goal lead.

“Again, when you are in the 45th minute of the game, we have to be a bit smarter in terms of decision-making. We’ve got to learn from these moments in terms of going in for the tackle and probably should have just let it happen, but I can’t fault these players.

“Ultimately, the players gave me everything and we’ve come away with a point, so we have to make sure that we build on this. This result should give the enthusiasm to be hungry for the rest of the season, but we are looking forward to the massive challenge.”

On Ronan Coughlan’s first start for Town…

“Taking Ronan [Coughlan] off was only a tactical decision; we felt they were getting too much space in the midfield, so we needed to swap to a three and brought Harvey [Macadam] on, but for a first start in League One, I thought he was magnificent.

“He gets his opportunity because he trains well every single day, he always shows enthusiasm and hunger, and was the top scorer in the Irish league last year for Waterford so he deserves his opportunity and has done himself no harm.”

On having more options available now…

“We would have tried to use Junior [Quitirna] if we could have but, with the circumstances and the position we were in during the match, it was difficult to get him on the pitch but, again, these lads are all available for us now.

“Ryan Broom came on for Harry Boyes in the first half and he’s been out for a long time as well, I thought Carl Johnston was really good once again and big Stocks [Jayden Stockley] led the line-up front by hustling and bustling his way through.

“He got us fouls and pushed us up the pitch and my goalkeeper also saved a penalty. Again, when you are where you are, things don’t always go for you. The first goal falls straight to the striker and the penalty goes against us as well.”
