Head Coach Charlie Adam spoke to the media for the first time after his side’s loss to Shrewsbury Town on New Year’s Day and gave his thoughts on the game.

It’s been a whirlwind couple of days for the new leader of the Cods as he was only appointed on Sunday afternoon and was thrown straight into an away clash just over 24 hours later, where he saw Fleetwood play well, but ultimately lose out to the Shrews on the road.

Here’s what Charlie had to say after the game:

On getting the opportunity…

“I’m happy to get the opportunity to manage this football club; it’s been a tough 48 hours in terms of turnover and having just the one session with the players, but I’ve seen enough in that 90 minutes to show there are positives in this side.

“I said to the lads in there, I’m delighted they kept going until the end, they were brave, and wanted to play. We’ve only worked on out-of-possession work at the moment and haven’t done anything on the ball yet and, even with that, I feel we caused them problems.

“There were some good performances from the lads; Shaun Rooney came back in and he was exceptional. The standards he will drive on a day-to-day basis is brilliant and it’s important we stick together.”

On the Club being aligned…

“Everyone must start to become aligned with what we want and that will take time but, ultimately, we have to win football matches. I’m the third manager this year and I have to have a go at this, make this team better and improve them.

“The supporters will demand that, the Club will demand that, and we need to have a team that are proud on the pitch. I said that in my statement when I came in, it’s important this group of players represent the town by putting in hard work and fighting for the badge.

“We’re on this journey together with the supporters, we’re going to stick together and important to do so because they travel long distances and we should be there to support them and we will then get that back by winning football matches.”
