Fleetwood Town Wrens Ladies were in action on Sunday afternoon, with both the First Team and Reserves playing in the Design and Print Cup.

The Ladies First Team hit the road on Sunday in the first round of the Alliance Design and Print cup, taking on Crewe Alexandra Women.

Both sides started off well, with both Town and Crewe very aggressive in terms of their attacking play meaning it was a very competitive fixture in Cheshire.

Despite the strong start from the Wrens, it was the home side who struck first in the 11th minute through a well taken strike inside the penalty area. With the Cod Army a goal behind, Emily Jones struck straight back for Fleetwood less than a minute later, ensuring the scoreline was back level. But as the minutes ticked down in first half injury time, it was the hosts who put themselves back in front.

With all to play for in the second half, Fleetwood came out strong and were competing and battling for everything across the pitch, but the clincal nature - just like last week - saw Crewe score two more to take the clash away from Fleetwood, exiting the competition.

Ellie Duffy was the Player of the Match, who gave everything from start to finish, but with the defeat, the Wrens will now enter the Plate of the Design and Print Cup.

Looking at The Reserve fixture, they were also on the road at the weekend, and played against a brand-new side in Litherland REMYCA in the First Round of the Alliance Design and Print Cup.

The game began and the Ladies seemed to struggle to settle down and find the flow of the game, and this unrest meant the hosts acting on the out of character mistakes and struck twice in quick confession to find themselves two goals up.

Fleetwood settled a little and managed to find some rhythm to their play, and did look more dangerous on the numerous attacks created. They were unlucky not to have got on the scoresheet, however the hard work fell a little short as the hosts found a third.

Ruby Hindle did manage to find the back of the net for the Cods, and this gave them a boost to keep going in the first half.

As the second half unfolded, the Ladies started to look the dominant team and with this came confidence as they started to play for the football, as well as battling in all areas of the pitch.

Another costly mistake allowed the hosts to find a fourth in the cup tie, but as ever, the girls never gave up and through the determination, Emily McCarthy scored a great goal ensuring the Ladies still had fight in them.

Both the First Team and the Reserves will now play in the Plate Cup, with the ties to be announced in due course.
