Fleetwood Town’s Wrens Ladies put in a five-star performance against local rivals Blackpool late last week, beating them 5-1 at Poolfoot Farm.

It was an even game at the start, with both sides creating chances early on, and this showed as both sides netted in the first half. Emily Jones opened the scoring for Fleetwood, thanks to her long-range effort, but Blackpool soon levelled things up as their forward side-footed the ball home, even after a brilliant save from Holly Scanlon.

This caused Town to up their game, scoring a second just before the break, through Jones once again, who netted either side of the half-time break, her second being another accomplished strike before she rounded the goalkeeper after the restart to complete her hat-trick on the day.

It was fair to say Jones would be named Player of the Match in the derby, but she was closely followed by the Slater sisters, Sophie and Emily, who both added to the scoreline in the second half from corners, meaning the game would end 5-1 at the Club’s training complex on a chilly Thursday evening.

The Reserves were also in action at the weekend as they hit the road to face Bolton Wanderers at the Eddie Davies Academy, but the result didn’t go their way as they lost the clash 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Our Ladies more than matched the speed of play Bolton set in the first half, however, the Ladies seemed to hit a bump in the road as the hosts jumped on the mistakes made by Fleetwood and found themselves in front. This caused our Wrens to push for an equaliser, meaning gaps would form at the back, which Bolton capitalised on.

Bolton found a third before the break and, even though Ruby Farrell brought the deficit back down to two, it wasn’t enough on the day as a fourth was added by the Trotters’ front line, meaning the game would be 4-1 at full-time.
