Under-17s captain Pele Smith spoke to the club after he lifted the Premier Development League trophy on Tuesday night after himself and his team-mates defeated Watford 3-2 with all goals coming in the first half.

A first trophy in a professional football set-up for most of Nathan Pond’s side where Smith, alongside his team-mates are determined to use this as a platform for success, education and growth in their development and careers.

Here’s what he had to say on the match itself...

“I have no words, the lads battled from start to finish. To come back from 1-0 and to keep taking the lead to then hold on it was great - it’s our first time in a position like this as a Category Two Academy, beating a team like Watford so all the lads are buzzing.

"I’m just full of adrenaline and I probably won’t sleep for the next few days so we need to take this confidence into the next few games.

“It was a long game, it felt and it was heavy on the legs but when you get a reward like that at the end of it I would do it every week no matter what, I can’t think of one word at all to sum up the game, the feeling is unreal really.

"it’s the biggest reward lifting a trophy in front of family and friends, it is such an amazing feeling.”

On getting rewarded for hard-work...

“Every training session we believe in what we are trying to do, we have some really good players who show both sides of the game, the attractive and the not so attractive because in the last twenty minutes of that final, it wasn’t pretty and there was times where we had to sit behind the ball and wait for the moment to come.

“We know we need to enjoy this moment but we will need to put it to bed before the next game comes about.

"We will enjoy the moment but we're hungry for more - whether the next trophy comes next year or in five years winning today makes me want to be successful - If I have a long career or not I want to win trophies but I know I have to stay humble to do so.

I’m hopefully coming into full-time football next year and I am hoping I can push myself as far as I can and just see where it gets me.”
