Fleetwood Town Wrens Ladies had two of their squads in action this week, with the first team travelling away from home and bringing back the three points.

Starting off with the first team, they went to the Anchor Stadium to face Darwen Ladies on Wednesday evening and walked away 2-1 winners on the night, with Emily Jones and Charmaine Cardwell sharing the Player of the Match honours.

It was a great start for the ladies as they put on a strong display throughout the first half, and they took control of the clash in the early stages. Spells of creative play allowed the Wrens to create multiple chances on goal with two goals coming in quick succession.

Both Cardwell and Ellie Parkinson converted on the night, meaning the Ladies had a 2-0 lead, but the hosts did manage to work their way back into the clash, halving the deficit with 20 minutes to go, but Town stayed strong and brought home all three points!

Moving on to the Reserves, they had a night filled with positives in midweek when they travelled to UCLan to take on a side in Preston North End that was fighting for promotion last season.

The ladies started off well and more than held their own, with great attacking play, and caused problems for Preston. Town took the lead from a free-kick, which Ruby Farrell – who was named Player of the Match – made sure she was taking.

The hosts reacted well and it wasn't long before they got a goal back from a corner, but this didn’t deter the Ladies as they continued to fight back and went looking for another goal and the hard work paid off.

After some fantastic build play, Farrell was able to grab her second of the night, but another roadblock appeared with half-time looming as the hosts again managed to find a scrappy goal from a corner taking it to 2-2 at the break.

As the second half kicked off, Preston managed to find the back of the net sharpish and for the first time found themselves in front, disappointing for the Ladies after such a brilliant display.

Even though the game was filled with positives to take into future games, it wasn’t the end they would have hoped for as some mistakes at the back led to the Lilywhites grabbing a further two goals, putting the game out of sight.
