Fleetwood Town’s Under-18s put on a perfect performance at the weekend when they beat Queens Park Rangers 9-0 at Poolfoot Farm in the Professional Development League.

The goalscoring against the Hoops started early on in the clash as, 17 minutes in, midfielder Bosembo Namputu broke the deadlock when he saw his effort deflect past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

On the stroke of half-time, frequent goalscorer Mikey Lane got in on the action after the young Cods earned a penalty with seconds to go in the first period. The young forward stepped up to the spot and calmly slotted it home to double the lead going into the break.

Non-stop action ensued in the second half, beginning with a Hermann Daha goal in the 54th minute and, what a start it was for the forward as he managed to complete a four-minute brace after finding the net for the second time in the game soon after.

To cap off a clinical six-minute period, Lane bagged his second, completing his brace two minutes after Daha’s double, meaning our Under-18s would be five goals to the good at the hour mark.

The hat-trick for Lane was done and dusted next as a quickfire brace added onto his first-half spot-kick, but this would be his last action of the game as both Lane and Daha made their way off the pitch to an ovation, being subbed for Harvey Currie and Dom Richmond.

Two final goals were still to come, and the link-up play between Liam Roberts and Richmond made it happen. Roberts managed to get in behind the back line for the 7th of the afternoon as he squared the ball to Richmond, who slotted home from close range.

Soon after, Roberts had his own goal as he latched onto a Namputu cross to the back post and right after that, captain Kayden Hughes rounded off a memorable afternoon at the club’s training complex with the ninth goal of the game!

Town XI: Bellizia (GK) (Woodward 80’), Cirino, Hughes (C), Haughey, Butterworth (Eccles 75’), Jack Doherty, Daha (Richmond 66’), Namputu (Elmore 75’), Lane (Currie 66’), McLean, Roberts.
