Fleetwood Town defender Will Johnson paid a visit to our Community Trust Sports College to give the students a talk on his journey into football and how he coped with studying for his A Levels whilst being a professional footballer.
Following a successful campaign with the Club's Under-18s last year, Will has agreed to put pen to paper on a two-year professional contract at Fleetwood Town Football Club back in November last year.
The 18-year-old joined as a scholar in the summer of 2021 and was named the captain of the Under-18s in the summer. The centre-back has flourished this season in the Development Squad and has worn the captain's armband a number of times this year - which is a credit to the young defender.
On Monday afternoon, Will took some time out of his day to visit the first-years and second-years at Fleetwood Town's Community Sports College, which was part of their tutorial programme for learners.
This programme is aimed at extending students learing beyond their BTEC qualification, delivering life skills and current affair lessons and whilst raising awareness of the issues in the local and national area. This helps develop learners in becoming holistic individuals with an increased employability skill set. This also allows students to increase communication skills, debate, British values, social and emotional education.
Will discussed how his journey in football has been different to most, but more importantly how he sets standards on and off the pitch, making sacrifices to allow him to have options moving forward.
Having secured an B in Maths during his A Level studies, the central defender knew the importance of having a backup plan if football didn't work out and with this being a big lesson for the students, it gave them an insight into how hard work and dedication can put you on the right path.
