Loan watch: Boyes named Man of the Match in Whitby Town clash

Our young players have been in action for their respective loan sides over the last week, with one young goalkeeper making a name for himself after a Man of the Match performance at the weekend.

Starting off with that young goalkeeper, Pat Boyes, who has been in action twice since our last report with the first of those seeing him pick up the Man of the Match award after his stellar performance against Whitby Town at Broadhurst Park.

In a game that was decided by two first-half goals, one apiece, it was all set for a nail-biting finish and Boyes was up to the task as he pulled off several big saves to keep United in the game including a brilliant double save late on meaning the game would end all square.

The goalkeeper was back in action a few days later as they travelled to face Warrington Rylands and this was a tough game for the side from Greater Manchester, but Boyes was one top form once again as he made two crucial saves around the hour mark to keep the game close.

Moving over to Merseyside now, Will Russ has also made another two appearances for Marine, with the first seeing him start and pick up 55 minutes in their 2-1 win over Marske United before being subbed on in their next fixture against Radcliffe, which ended in 3-2 to the Mariners.

Two players had a game over in Ireland on Friday evening, Barry Baggley and Drew Baker, but both were left on the bench for the league clash against Longford Town.

Ryan Burke and Christie Pattisson, as well as an own goal, meant the game would end 3-0 to the Blues, with Baker making a late substitute appearance, coming on in the 83rd minute.

Here’s what is up next for our players out on loan:

Baggley & Baker: Waterford FC v Wexford – League of Ireland First Division – RSC – Friday 29 September (7:45pm kick-off)

Boyes: Workington AFC v FC United of Manchester – Northern Premier League Premier Division – Borough Park – Saturday 30 September (3pm kick-off)

Russ: Hyde United v Marine AFC – Emirates FA Cup Third Qualifying Round – Ewan Fields – Saturday 30 September (3pm kick-off)
