The Fleetwood Town Wrens Ladies First Team were in action once again at the weekend as they narrowly lost their league clash against Curzon Ashton 3-2 at Tameside Stadium.

Town had a fresh look to the squad on the road as not only was forward Ruby Farrell prepared to make her debut, but they would also see both goalkeeper Hollie Scanlon and defender Katie Haydock return from their respective injuries, meaning over half the squad that travelled were under the age of 18.

In the early stages of the game, our Ladies struggled to find their flow, and this led to the hosts creating better chances in the first half of the fixture. This played its part in the fixture as they managed to break the deadlock as an indirect free kick beat the keeper to make it 1-0 11 minutes in.

An equaliser was found 10 minutes later though as a brilliant finish from Ellie Parkinson cancelled out the opener, but that score line didn’t last too long, as the hosts were awarded a penalty, which they converted soon after to put themselves back into the lead.

Fleetwood continued to play well, going toe to toe with Curzon, as they searched for an equaliser once again, however, it was the hosts again who found the back of the net within the last minutes of the first half, taking the score line to 3-1 and Fleetwood having work to do in the second half.

As the second half unfolded, Fleetwood took control and started to dominate the proceedings in the middle of the park, creating countless attacking opportunities and causing problems for the hosts in the final third, as they looked to get back into the game, and that paid off as the debutant, Farrell, brought the score back to 3-2.

With our Ladies only being a goal down now, they had to be relentless in the way they looked for the equaliser, however, it just wasn't meant to be as the team from Tameside took all three points on the day.
