It has been another busy week for three of our Fleetwood Town players as they’ve been out on international duty with the countries and have featured in all matches played over the last seven days.
On loan defender Bosun Lawal was once again called up to the Ireland Under-21s squad for their Euro 2025 Qualifier against Latvia in Jelgava. The man from Celtic started in defense for Ireland and helped guide his side to a 2-1 victory on the road, with teammate Armstrong Oko-Flex scoring two goals to secure a vital three points. Lativa did score in the 92nd minute of the goal to scare Ireland, but the Green Wall stood firm and made sure they didn't let their lead slip.
Both Carl Johnston and Stephen McMullan were called up to Northern Ireland's Under-21s after fine performances during the last international break. Town's duo had two games this week and firstly made the long trip to Baku to play against Azerbaijan, then headed back home to face Serbia at Mourneview Park in another Under-21s European Qualifier.
In the first match, Tommy Wright's side came away 1-0 winners in Latvia despite being down to ten men for a large amount of the fixture. Johnston captained the side again and McMullan pulled off some fantastic saves throughout the match to secure Northern Ireland's first win in the competition.
After a six hour flight back to Belfast, it was to the Mourneview Park Stadium on Monday night where CJ and co welcomed Serbia for another Euro Qualifier. The match ended 2-1 to the visitors and despite Northern Ireland pulling one back, they couldn't go on and find the winner which ultimately Serbia did on the night.
Well done lads, time to head back to Fleetwood now with Lincoln at the weekend!
