Wiredu and McCarthy named as North West Awards finalists

Both Brendan Wiredu and Emily McCarthy have been named as finalists in their respective categories at the North West Football Awards, with the event set to take place in November at The Point in Manchester.

Wiredu, who was an ever-present figure in the Fleetwood side in his debut season, was a top performer in whatever position he was placed in, whether that would be in the midfield or the defence.

The same goes for McCarthy as she led the line for our Wrens Ladies Reserves throughout the campaign where they saw silverware at the end, winning the league in dramatic fashion right at the end!

Both players have now been invited to this year’s Gala Dinner, which will take place at The Point, Emirates Old Trafford on Monday 6 November from 6.30 pm, and will be hosted by Eilidh Barbour and Dion Dublin.

Here are all the nominees in Brendan’s and Emily’s categories:

League One Player of the Season:

- Tommy Leigh – Accrington Stanley Football Club

- Dion Charles - Bolton Wanderers Football Club

- Brendan Wiredu – Fleetwood Town Football Club

Women’s Player of the Season:

- Leah Embley – Burnley FC Women

- Emily McCarthy – Fleetwood Town Wrens Ladies

- Ceri Holland – Liverpool Football Club Women

- Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw – Manchester City Women’s Football Club

- Hannah Blundell – Manchester United Women’s Football Club

- Anya McCready – Tranmere Rovers Ladies

Good luck to you both, here’s to bringing home more silverware!
