Fleetwood Town are delighted to announce young goalkeeper Stephen McMullan has made the step up to the Northern Ireland Senior squad after originally being called up to the Under-21s.

McMullan, who has progressed through our Category-Two Academy over the last few years, has been a feature in Town’s matchday squads over the last season and a half, and will now see the rewards for his hard work over that time.

The 18-year-old, who was on the call-up list for Tommy Wright’s Under-21s earlier this month, was picked to join the Senior squad this international break due to an injury to goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell, who is playing abroad whilst on loan from Burnley.

He will be just the fourth Fleetwood Town player to make the jump to the peak of the Northern Irish national setup after Conor McLaughlin, Paddy Lane, and Carl Johnston – who has also been called up to the Under-21s this week.

McMullan will now head over to Bangor for training with the squad ahead of their Euro 2024 Qualifiers against Finland on Friday 17 November and Denmark on Monday 20 November.

Even though he has stepped up, he will still be eligible for the Under-21s' international clash against England on Tuesday 21 November (7:45pm kick-off), with Barry Baggley also joining up with the Young Boys in Green after his success this season with Waterford FC.

Congratulations and good luck with the national team, Stephen!
