Loan watch: Baggley and Baker secure promotion at Waterford

In this week’s loan watch report, two of our players out on loan have had a brilliant week as they secured promotion after winning the play-offs, a forward found the back of the net, and a winger produced an assist over the last seven days.

It was yet another brilliant week for Barry Baggley and Drew Baker last week as they managed to secure promotion to the League of Ireland Premier Division after beating Cork City 2-1 in extra time, thanks to a brilliant strike from Connor Parsons and a calmly struck penalty by Ronan Coughlan in the 100th minute of the game.

Baggley started and was influential during his time on the pitch, creating opportunities at the top end of the pitch, and helped keep the defence stern at the back as well. He was subbed off in the 113th minute of the game for Niall O’Keeffe and received a rapture of applause from the spectators at Tallaght Stadium – Baker wasn’t included in the squad on the night.

Two more of our lads on loan saw their side pick up three points at the weekend at Torquay United as Theo Williams bagged his first goal for the side in their 2-0 win over Havant & Waterlooville, with Callum Dolan sitting on the bench for this one due to picking up a knock in the Yeovil Town fixture the game before.

Williams was a star performer in the 85 minutes he played at Westleigh Park as he created multiple chances throughout, but the main one was the chance that ended up in the back of the net where he picked up the ball in the area and poked it past the keeper to break the deadlock and was unlucky not to double his tally two minutes later when he curled an effort just wide.

Another duo spending time away from the Fylde Coast is George Morrison and Billy Jones, who are both applying their trade at King’s Lynn Town, and they both featured in the 2-1 win over Rushall Olympic, which was their last outing at Dales Lane. Both helped create chances in the game, with Ben Stephens and Bartosz Cybulski grabbing the goals.

Goalkeeper Pat Boyes has had an exciting week at FC United of Manchester as he’s spent time away from England as they faced Polish side Krakow Dragoons in the Fenix Trophy a week ago - he played from start to finish in the game, but the result wasn’t the one they’d have been hoping for. After returning, he kept a clean sheet in their next game, Lancaster City away from home.

It’s been a back-and-forth week for young winger Cian Hayes, who picked up an assist in Rochdale’s game against Wealdstone, but they fell to a 3-2 loss in the fixture after the opposition netted the winner five minutes into added time at the end of the game. Hayes’ assist came from him beating two markers before picking out his man in the box.

Defender Tom Hoyle managed another 90 minutes at Witton Albion over the last seven days as he started and played throughout their 2-1 win over Newcastle Town away from home, with the last name on the loan watch being Will Russ, who is still out with an injury meaning he couldn’t feature in Hyde United’s clashes against Whitby Town and Marske United.
