Fleetwood Town can confirm Cian Hayes has been called up to the Republic of Ireland Under-21s for the first time ahead of their international friendly against Iceland next week.

Ireland’s Under-21s head coach Jim Crawford has named the young winger in his 20-man squad, with Hayes joining 12 other previously uncapped professionals at the U21 level.

Hayes, who has represented the Under-19s before on five occasions, will join up with the rest of the squad in Cork and will play the game against Iceland at Turner’s Cross on Sunday 26 March (4pm kick-off).

Alongside Cian is Jimmy Corcoran (Cork City), Josh Keeley (Tottenham Hotspur), Tayo Adaramola (Crystal Palace), Festy Ebosele (Udinese), Anselmo Garcia MacNulty (Wolfsburg), Bosun Lawal (Celtic), Tom Cannon (Everton), Andrew Moran (Brighton & Hove Albion), and Armstrong Okoflex (West Ham United).

The Republic of Ireland Under-21s Jim Crawford said on the squad: “This promises to be an exciting occasion. A new look team, in our first international of year in what we hope will be in front of a big crowd in Turner’s Cross.

“It’s a great opportunity for these players to go out and show what they’re capable of against a very good Iceland side. It’s been six months since we were last together and I’m looking forward to meeting up with the players and staff again.”

For any of our Irish Cods who want to go and support Cian, tickets are priced €5 for children, €10 for adults, and €20 for a family ticket (two adults, two children) - they can be purchased HERE.
