Under-14s win the SETU Arena Cup over in Ireland

Fleetwood Town are delighted to say our Under-14s, who have been over in Ireland this week, have come away victorious in the SETU Arena Cup after beating the hosts Waterford FC in the final!

The tournament finished exactly the way it started with the Blues and Cods challenging each other, but in the opener, it was Waterford who won out as that game finished 4-2 on Tuesday morning.

Fortune quickly turned around for the young Cods though as they overcame Finn Harps in the afternoon to get their tournament back on track before putting three past UCD the day after in a 3-0 win.

This meant both Fleetwood and Waterford would progress to the cup knockout stages, where they faced off against Kildare in the semi-finals, but two quick goals meant a spot in the final was on the cards – and it was Waterford FC once again.

For Nathan Pond and Danny Hastings’ side, it wasn’t the start to the final they wanted as the hosts scored within the first minute, but a late comeback saw Town pull it back to a 3-2 scoreline, meaning the trophy was ours.

Everyone at Fleetwood Town would like to thank the staff and officials at the SETU Arena Cup, as well as the teams that participated, as they made it a memorable experience for our young players.

Congratulations lads – now it’s time to head back to England!
