Fleetwood Town’s Development Squad played out a 1-1 draw with Spennymoor Town at Newcastle Blue Star’s Scotswood Sports Centre on Saturday afternoon.

It wasn’t the start the young Cods were looking for in the first pre-season clash of the summer as the home side took the lead before the break after Glen Taylor drilled a free-kick into the bottom left corner of the goal to make it 1-0.

Matt Lawlor’s side recovered well from this, working multiple chances, and managed to bring the game back to level terms in the second half thanks to a goal from Junior Quitirna from just inside the Spennymoor box.

The move started with a Tom Hoyle throw-in on the right to Josh Edwards, who played a cross-field ball to Pharrell Brown who drifted in from the wing and tried a shot of his own, which was saved and parried only to Sam Fishburn.

The young forward, who has just joined the Development Squad from recently promoted side Carlisle United, tapped the ball into the feet of Quitirna 18-yards out who took the ball down well and struck it past the keeper to ensure the honours would be even at the final whistle.

Town XI: Donaghy (GK), Jones, Hoyle, Johnson, Edwards, Fletcher, Morrison, Quitirna, Williams, Fishburn, Brown.

Bench: Trialist, Whelan, Trialist, Richmond, Russ.
