Fleetwood Town’s Development Squad carried on their unbeaten start to their pre-season schedule as they managed to beat Leicester City’s Under-23s 4-3 at the Foxes’ training ground.

In what was an end-to-end game, it was the hosts who took the lead with the only goal of the first half as they played a ball through the Town backline 15 minutes into the clash, with their centre forward calmly slotting home past goalkeeper Pat Boyes.

Matt Lawlor then made a couple of substitutes at the break, bringing Sam Glenfield and Will Johnson on, and the game seemed to change as George Morrison was able to bring the game back to level terms straight away.

Glenfield played a cross-field ball to Josh Edwards on the left, who then found Morrison in the middle as he dispatched a calm side-footed finish to make it 1-1.

A goal apiece was added in the 10-minute period after this as Leicester put themselves back in the lead after heading in from close range, but it was Pharrell Brown who cancelled that out not long after as he cut inside from the wing and curled his effort inside the far post, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

Another setback followed this as the Foxes netted their third 20 minutes from time, but the young Cods didn’t let their heads drop as they kept pushing until the end of the game, with the rewards for the hard work being shown in the fashion of two late goals.

Town's third came from a cross by Trialist B on the right, as he played the ball in low towards Theo Williams, who helped the cross onto Will Russ, with the former-Leicester man chipping the goalkeeper from close range soon after.

The winner on the afternoon secured Morrison’s brace in the clash with seven minutes to go as the midfielder got on the end of Brown’s deep cross into the box and nodded in a free header at the back post, meaning Town would walk away winners.

The young Cods are next in action on Saturday 22 July when they travel away to Shawbridge to face Northern Premier League Division One West side Clitheroe in a 3pm kick-off.

Town XI: Boyes (GK), Wright (Jones 65’), Whelan (Hoyle 60’), Trialist A (Johnson 46’), Hughes (Trialist B 71’), Edwards, Fletcher (Glenfield 46’), Morrison, Brown, Russ, Williams.
