Fleetwood Town’s Development Squad added another victory to their pre-season tally as they managed to beat Clitheroe 4-0 at Shawbridge on Saturday afternoon.

It was a dominant performance from the young Cods throughout the fixture, with efforts flowing from minute one. The first big chance for the team in red came in the 21st minute as forward Junior Quitirna forced a near post-diving save from the hosts’ keeper with his right-footed strike.

It wasn’t long after this when Town broke the deadlock as a corner from the right was half cleared to Will Johnson, on the edge of the Clitheroe box, and his shot was deflected into the path of Sam Fishburn who calmly found the back of the net to make it 1-0 around the half-hour mark.

Just before the break, Matt Lawlor’s side could have made it two as Maleace Asamoah cut inside after running down the right and fed the ball to Quitirna 20-yards out, but the powerful strike went just over the bar, meaning the advantage would stay at one for half-time.

A clinical second-half performance followed; Quitirna doubled the lead 10 minutes after the restart when midfielder Sam Glenfield played a through ball to the forward who slotted past the keeper, with Will Russ coming off the bench to convert a penalty soon after.

The game was rounded off when the Cods scored their fourth of the afternoon when substitute Billy Jones ran down the right wing and played a low cross into the box, which the goalkeeper dealt with, but the rebound found its way to the feet of Theo Williams who calmly slotted home to finish off the scoring at Shawbridge.

Lawlor’s side have kept up their unbeaten pre-season with this win away from home and they will now be focused on their next fixture, which is set to take place on Tuesday evening when they take on Barnoldswick Town at the Silentnight Stadium.

Town XI: McMullan (GK), Asamoah (Jones 68’), Holgate, Teale (Whelan 77’), Johnson, Hayes (Edwards 68’), Wilson (Brown 68’), White (Morrison 68’), Glenfield (Wright 77’), Fishburn (Russ 68’), Quitirna (Williams 68’).
