Defender Brendan Wiredu spoke to the media after Fleetwood Town’s 1-0 win over Grimsby Town and explained how he’s proud of keeping three clean sheets in a row.

The ever-present figure in Town’s side started in the backline once again for Scott Brown and played his part in keeping yet another clean sheet at Highbury this pre-season, meaning the Cods haven’t conceded a single goal at Highbury ahead of the new campaign.

Here’s what Brendan had to say after the game:

On how he found it playing against Grimsby…

“It was a physical battle, we knew what Grimsby were going to bring to the party; they’re a very good team on the ball, I think they pressed us well, but I think we stood up to the challenge, especially in the second half we got in their faces.

“I’m feeling fit, probably the fittest I’ve felt in a very long time, I just can’t wait for the season to start. It’s nice to end pre-season with a win at home.”

On the confidence gained from keeping clean sheets…

“We want to make Highbury a fortress; we’ve kept three clean sheets in a row here so obviously that’s a positive going into the first game here at home. We’re taking it with very high confidence, we take pride in our defending and in keeping clean sheets.

“The mood is very high and the lads who have joined have lifted the group, as well as the lads that were already here. They’ve all brought positive energy into the camp. The group is a great group.

“We give ourselves high expectations in the camp, we all know what we want to achieve, everyone’s in line and hopefully we go out there and prove it. Everyone’s sights are being set on going to Carlisle and hopefully going there and winning.”
