Defender Josh Earl sat down with us whilst out in Ireland on Fleetwood Town’s pre-season tour and spoke about all aspects of the trip.

The Cods have been over in Waterford for three days now and the players haven’t had an easy time on the training pitch with runs, sessions, and gym work to be done, but Josh says it will all benefit the squad in the long run.

Here’s what the defender had to say in his interview:

On the tour so far in Waterford…

“It’s been brilliant over here; the training facilities are good and the town is nice and quiet which is great for us as we can come back from training and go out for a coffee together.

“Training has been hard, which is probably the reason why I haven’t seen much of Waterford as I’ve been in bed most of the time, but I’d say is been great so far.

“I feel like we’ve been worked a bit harder here than we were in Croatia last year, that just my opinion but it’s all worked out quite well for us as a group.”

On the new additions to the squad…

“They’ve all settled in brilliantly to the group, we’ve got a great group here who are welcoming to everyone who comes into the building and we’ve already seen that Danny [Mayor], Ryan [Broom], and Adam [Montgomery] fit in straight away.

“Adam is a brilliant lad, you can tell that already, and he looks good on the ball as well. Hopefully, we can get a few games in together over pre-season and start to build up a partnership.”

On coming back in after a summer break…

“I’m feeling tired but good at the same time, a lot of the lads have come back fit and seems like they’ve all had a good break and let their bodies recover so we’re all flying, which is great to see.

“I had a good few holidays with family and friends, but got straight back to work as soon as those holidays were over. It’s a tough sport mentally and physically football, so letting your body and mind recover is crucial to kick on.

“We came straight back into the running tests, but you don’t expect anything else. You’ve just got to make sure you stay fit throughout the off-season because if you get injured, it’ll have a massive affect on the season as a whole.”
