Fleetwood Town exit the FA Youth Cup in the Fifth Round following a 5-0 defeat away at Manchester City.

The fixture took place at the City Football Academy Stadium, which is part of the Etihad Campus only meters away from the First Team stadium.

After beating Middlesbrough in the Fourth Round, the young Cods took to the field hoping to cause another upset against City - who have won the FA Youth Cup three times in their history - but it was the hosts who struck first.

With seven minutes on the clock, the hosts took the lead through Justin Oboavwoduo. It was a never twenty minutes for the Blues who couldn't add to their tally, and with Fleetwood Town winning a penalty on the half-hour mark, it looked like there was a way back.

Following Billy Jones' trip inside the City penalty box, Sam Glenfield failed to convert from 12-yards with the hosts capitalising on the miss by scoring moments later to make it two 2-0 at half-time.

City grabbed their third and fourth in quick succession before adding a fifth only five minutes from the end.

It has been a journey the Fleetwood Town Under-18s won't forget, with victories over Carlisle United, Stockport County, Bristol City and a memorable night at Highbury against Middlesbrough, which saw Town win 3-0 under the lights.

Mark Yeates and his coaching staff have a match to prepare for on Saturday 11 February away at Shrewsbury Town. With Town five points clear at the top of the North West Youth Alliance League, there will be a chance to add to that tally this weekend.
