Captain Josh Vela spoke to the media after Fleetwood Town were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Shrewsbury Town at Highbury on Saturday afternoon.

Vela, like everyone else, had to dig in deep to battle for an equaliser however Town's efforts weren't enough. The midfielder understands that it's a difficult period for the club, however, he is determined to assist in his role to start picking up positive results.

Here’s what Josh said after the game:

On the defeat...

"We had complete control of the game; we had a few really good chances where we could have been ahead, but it was just one mistake and that is just the way it seems to be going at the minute, they punished us and, on the counter attack, they scored.

"It's not just on the strikers to put the ball in the back of the net, it's down to everyone, we haven't got that ruthlessness and the other team gets one chance sometimes and they punish us.

“When we had ten men, we had nothing to lose so we just had to go for it where we had things like the offside goal and a few decent half chances, but they just sat behind the ball, pinged the ball long and defended their lead."

On crucial moments in games...

"No one means to make a mistake in a game and at the minute it seems like every mistake we make is costing us the game, Scott Robertson has slipped where he clearly didn't mean to and unfortunately their man has put it into the back of the net.

"Then there was the accidental mix-up and it was a split decision in them moments, Lynch didn't want their man to score but in hindsight, it's just football and the way that things are going for us.

"It's our own fault, we have let home form slip and that's key in this league to every team, we play well in games but that isn't good enough by itself, we don't even get the first goal in games, if we went one-nil up today chances are we would have won that game without a doubt."

On his role in turning things around...

"Myself, along with everyone has their piece to say, this start to the season has happened but we have a chance to make it right next week, in football, you have to move on where we can just get back on the training pitch and work hard and get back going.

"We know the fans are disappointed, they spend their hard-earned money to come and see us play on the pitch, we need the fans to stick with us and we will give 100%, it's the mistakes that are killing us at the minute.

“We need to start getting that winning habit, all the team has to stick together, we will put this start behind us and start being positive, we know it's tough to do but we will be back to the hard work on Monday."
