Fleetwood Town’s Development Squad carried on their perfect start to their first-ever Professional Development League campaign on Friday afternoon as they beat Watford 3-1 at Vicarage Road.
It was a quick start for the young Cods as they looked to continue their rich run of form in the Cardiff City opening day win, and that they did, as Pharrell Brown opened the scoring in the clash just three minutes in.
The move saw the forward cut in from his position on the left wing and place the ball into the opposite corner of the goal, meaning Town would take a much-appreciated lead early on in this away clash.
That lead, however, would only last until the 45th minute as Eames, who was booked earlier in the fixture, levelled up the scoring right before the break, meaning late changes to the team talk from coach Matt Lawlor at half-time.
Much like the first half, Town came out of the traps the quicker of the two sides as they found themselves back in the lead just seven minutes after the break as midfielder George Morrison latched onto a half-dealt-with cross to make the score 2-1.
After a cluster of changes, spread across the entirety of the second half, it looked like Fleetwood would be able to hold on to their one-goal lead, but it was the opposite as they were actually able to add onto it late in the clash!
Theo Williams made it three with seconds to go in added time – making it two for the season already for the young forward – as he caught Watford on the counter after being played through by Morrison and calmly slotted home to round out another good performance.
With this win in the books, the young Cods now sit top of the Professional Development League after two consecutive victories with Ipswich Town at home next on the calendar on Tuesday 29 August.
