Fleetwood Town Wrens Ladies Development Squad continued their pre-season preparations against Sir Tom Finney Ladies last night as they managed to beat them 5-1 at the University of Lancashire.
It was a great start for the Development Squad, with the Ladies taking control of the game from the get-go, as great attacking spells created lots of brilliant chances in the opening minutes.
It was Lauren Baines who managed to find the back of the net first after a great shot from Gemma Thorpe picked up control of the ball just in front of the goal line, with Baines ensuring she smashed it into the back of the net.
The Ladies continued to assert dominance across the pitch and it was fantastic to see things the team had been working on in training coming into play and it wasn't long before Baines found the back of the net again, taking the Ladies to a 2-0 lead at half-time.
At the break, the coaches made plenty of changes to ensure all players could get valuable game time, and probably the most important factor of the evening was that this didn't interrupt the form of the side.
Substitute Jordan O'Neill made it three just a couple of minutes after coming on at the half when she played a part in creating brilliant phases of play across the thirds.
She wasn’t done there either as O'Neill went hunting for a second and a brilliant through ball ensured she found her second goal of the night.
The hard work and effort Thorpe put in throughout the night finally paid off after a fantastic strike from outside the box found the back of the net, a deserved goal.
Even though Sir Tom Finney Ladies did manage to pull one goal back at the end of the game, it was a great example of how the Ladies can perform in the upcoming season!
Well done, Ladies!
