Fleetwood Town Wrens Ladies Reserves kicked on their pre-season with a bang on Tuesday evening when they managed to beat Chorley Women 5-1 at Poolfoot Farm.

In what was a great opportunity for the players and staff, the Ladies controlled the game throughout. Player of the match Ruby Farrell set the bar high from the off with her work rate and desire to win the ball back in dangerous areas.

Our Wrens created a lot of chances, whilst showcasing brilliant football, and that paid off with five goals that evening - Emily Brandes was the first Fleetwood player to find herself on the score sheet, with a brilliant first-time shot.

It wasn’t long before Gracie Slater found the back of the net, on what was a fantastic debut for the reserves after stepping from the Under-18s, giving the Ladies a 2-0 lead at half time.

The second half kicked off and the ladies continued to assert their dominance across the pitch, it wasn’t long before Robyn Hodkin found the back of the net after a brilliant assist from another player making her reserve debut, Ellie Crompton.

The ladies continued to thrive in the game and create great spells across the pitch, however, a mistake at the back allowed the visitors to get a goal back.

With the second half well underway, Farrell was finally able to get onto the score sheet for the night, which was more than deserved for her performance. Emily McCarthy wasn’t long behind her getting another, allowing the ladies to take a 5-1 win in the pre-season friendly.

The game was a great run out for the Ladies and an important chance for new players to be looked at and to continue to get the ladies ready for the 2023/24 season.

A big thank you to Chorley and good luck with the season.
