Fleetwood Town’s Development Squad carried on with their packed pre-season schedule on Saturday when they beat Bamber Bridge 2-0 away from home.

The game against the Northern Premier League Premier Division side was always going to be a tough test for Matt Lawlor’s side, but it was one that the young Cods knew they were up for and the performance on the afternoon showed that.

Just before the half time break, after both sides had created multiple chances, it was Town who broke the deadlock as Harry Wilson picked out Theo Williams with a deep cross, with the forward heading back across goal, finding the back of the net.

Unfortunately, it was the final part Williams would play in the game as he would be replaced by youngster Mikey Lane at half-time, who was fresh off scoring a hat-trick for the Under-18s that morning.

The link-up between 16-year-old Lane and new signing Sam Fishburn was evident for all who attended the fixture, as the Cods looked to extend their advantage in the second half, but they had to wait until the 88th minute to do so.

Full-back Josh Edwards stood over a free-kick two minutes from time and struck the set-piece from the right-hand side with his left foot across the face of goal and managed to beat the goalkeeper, with the shot taking a deflection on the way.

Town XI: Harrington (GK), Johnson, Teale, Trialist A, Wright, Edwards, Wilson, Morrison, Brown (White 60’), Fishburn, Williams (Lane 45’).

Unused subs: Donaghy (GK), Hoyle, Whelan, Trialist B.
