Fleetwood Town can confirm defender Carl Johnston and goalkeeper Stephen McMullan have been called up to the Northern Ireland Under-21s ahead of their clashes against Luxembourg and Ukraine.

Both players, who have featured in the first team this season already, will join up with Tommy Wright’s side as they prepare for their EURO Qualifier double header next month.

The Under-21s last played almost a year ago, in two friendlies against Scotland, and only eight players who featured in those games are included this time.

Joining Johnston and McMullan are the likes of Josh Clarke (Celtic), Michael Forbes (West Ham United), Darren Robinson (Derby County), Patrick Kelly (West Ham United), Callum Marshall (West Ham United) and more.

Northern Ireland – who have been drawn in Group F for the U21 Euro 2025 qualifying series alongside England, Ukraine, Serbia, Azerbaijan, and Luxembourg – will kick off their campaign with a clash against Luxembourg at Lurgan’s Mourneview Park on Thursday 7 September (2pm kick-off).

The second game will see them come up against Ukraine away on Tuesday 12 September. That game will be played at the Slovakian FA’s national training centre in Poprad (6:30pm kick-off BST).

Congrats on the call-ups and good luck!
