Head coach Scott Brown spoke to the club after his side drew 1-1 away at Carlisle United in the opening game in the Sky Bet League One season.

A free kick by Owen Moxon for the hosts opened the scoring in the first half, however, that was cancelled out by a strike into the far corner by Brendan Wiredu for Town just before the second half.

There were many efforts by both sides to sneak a winner but there was no change to the scoreline after almost 110 minutes of football this afternoon in Cumbria.

On the game of Football itself...

“It’s about what we do; I thought we played some good football today. It was a good battle out there on the park, I thought we defended really well – we conceded a fantastic free-kick, but we got ourselves back in the game, but these things happen.

“Teams will score fantastic free-kicks against us but we showed heart and desire to get back into the game and we had some solid periods where we really controlled the game. We looked the fitter team so I’m proud of the lads for that, but we need to be ruthless at times in the final third.

“We got into great areas, but we do have the small details we need to iron out as soon as we possibly can. We have a good bunch of lads and there is quality we can bring on from the bench at any time.”

On the attitude and application of the squad...

“If you look back to last season when me and Steven Whittaker came in, we lost 2-1 away to Port Vale. There were a lot of fans in an energetic stadium and that was the same as today, I think we dealt with it a lot better this time and we have managed to stay in the game.

“We could have thrown the towel in, but these lads never know when to give up, they will play all the way to the end. We went to the 103rd minute and could have scored more goals, but I am just glad that we stayed switched on at the back because they could have killed us off.

“You're always going to get clattered in games like these, especially when decisions aren’t going your way. We need the strength in depth especially when the games are going to 113 minutes, we are going to need everybody in the squad - I think the lads did really well today in any system.”
